Cổng990— FTPS (FTP over TLS, implicit)
TCP 990 là FTPS ở chế độ ngầm định: bắt tay TLS bắt đầu ngay khi máy khách kết nối, không có thương lượng AUTH TLS. Biến thể tường minh (cổng 21 + AUTH TLS) phổ biến hơn hiện nay, nhưng nhiều máy khách và thiết bị cũ vẫn mặc định dùng 990.
Registry assignments, software defaults and local listeners are different things. A port number alone does not identify or secure a service.

Với FTPS trên 990: vsftpd cần `listen_port=990` và `implicit_ssl=YES`; ứng dụng FileZilla chọn "Require implicit FTP over TLS". Kênh điều khiển dùng 990 nhưng kênh dữ liệu dùng cổng động — mở dải `pasv_min_port`..`pasv_max_port` trong tường lửa. Chuỗi chứng chỉ thiếu có thể khiến một số máy khách thất bại không báo lỗi; xác minh bằng `openssl s_client -connect host:990`.
Important limitations
FTPS ngầm định trên 990 ít phổ biến hơn trong triển khai hiện đại; IANA đã chính thức gán tên dịch vụ FTPS cho cổng này. Triển khai mới nên dùng FTPS tường minh (21 + AUTH TLS) hoặc SFTP (22, dựa trên SSH). Không trộn lẫn ba cách — cổng, giao thức và thiết lập máy khách phải khớp nhau.
